Payton ... first thing in the morning

I love this moment in the day. It's not always this pleasant but when it is, it's so precious. Sometimes Daddy gets to be there and sometimes it's me that lovingly takes Payton out of her crib in the morning. You know how it goes. I'm either laying in bed, warm and cozy, and so happy to be catching a few extra zzz's. Then I hear some babbling, a whimper, and the sheets rustling. Sometimes I've been up for a while and getting a few things done before the kiddos see the morning light. I faintly hear some playing and cute little sounds coming from the direction of the girls' room. So, I can't help myself. I creep in front of their door and slowly open it. She makes eye contact and bends her knees up and down in excitement. I love the smile, the anticipation, the "come and get me" and "I'm so happy to spend my day with you" kind of look. So sweet ...

  1. The morning excitement was always the best part of the day when John was a toddler. We'd hear the sounds of joyful play; and when we'd enter the room, he'd smile & shake the bars of his cage in anticipation....
Against my better instincts, Janine always let him out.
