my favorite season

Fall is my favorite season and this week we have had the most perfect fall weather- sunny but cool! We've been spending a lot of time outside. In fact, a few days ago John wanted to take a hike around the property behind us. I would like to be able to write that it was all thrills and smiles with the girls frolicking in the field, but that was not to be! ... at least not at the beginning. There's a lot of brush and John knew this ... that's why he started the adventure by saying to me, "This might be like torture to the girls, but it's good for their character." Spoken like a true Dad, right? There was quite a bit of whining and unhappiness as we trailblazed our way, but thankfully after we reached the barn and explored the little creek, the girls cheered up. (I'm sure it helped that John stashed Halloween candy in his pocket and surprisingly brought it out halfway through the trip). It ended up being an opportunity to appreciate God's beautiful creation and to encourage our girls to marvel at not only the creation but the creator. I'm thankful we have this undeveloped land behind us ... it won't last for long!
