All of these "stellar" Mom moments happened in the last 3 months. I really should write about more of them for memory sake because they happen every week, if not every day!!
1. - Had to take one of the girls to the store to get a few new items of clothing. Right as we were walking into the dressing room she told me she had to go potty. I told her we would be super quick and to hold it. No can do - peed right on the floor at Old Navy!
2.) Same child told me she was thirsty at Kroger. "We're almost done" was my quick reply. As I was looking at the apples, she was licking the water off the fresh broccoli! nice : )
3.) Asked John to get Sarah dressed as I was super rushed to get out the door. Finally got to a friend's house who was doing some alterations for the girls' upcoming flower girl dresses. I picked up Sarah and noticed that John had put Anna's socks on Sarah's feet. I don't even know how that is possible. ha ha! Then her spit up and drool drenched (understatement) her shirt. Totally forgot change of clothes or bib.
4.) Anna had two b-day parties last Saturday. When we took her to the latter one, we had to put Payton in the van straight from her nap. Neither one of us remembered her shoes or coat. That didn't hold us back, though. We still took her out for pizza and to look at new tricycles without shoes. We DID get some looks : )
5.) I didn't take time to change baby girl's wet diaper as we left the house in a hurry - I figured I would change it as soon as we got to our destination. Bad call. She pooped on the way there with no room in her diaper. Major blowout and guess what? No extra clothes in the diaper bag (again!!!). Wrapped her in a blanket (thankfully we had that) and stuck an extra set of clothes in the car the next day : )
I find that forgiving myself for these parenting "mishaps" is pretty easy when I get over my fear of man - I mean NO parent is even near perfect (even though some Moms always have a change of clothese for their babies ) and I make my fair share of poor judgement calls. Most of the time, it's fun to laugh at these moments then or now : ) However, it is so much harder to forgive myself when I fall short of God's standards (not man's) and I sin againist my children ... when my temper flares, I act selfishly, get impatient with my kids, etc, etc, etc! I'm so thankful that this past year the Lord has been teaching my heart more and more about applying the gospel to these difficult moments. God's promise of forgiveness because of Christ's death, burial, and resurrection can daily turn my heart to repentence & faith and help me move forward and change in His grace instead of wallowing in my "bad Mom" moments. You know what's also great? I can extend grace & forgiveness to my kids because it has been given to me. I hope you can rely on His grace too : )
Blessed by your stories...and your thoughts. Thank-you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat mom can't relate to all those moments?? :) Myles has spent most of his winter with no socks, no shoes, and no coat. And, I think he has only had one cold. I know I get looks ---- BUT, he always has a hat on!! :) Ha ha... Every mom has her beliefs! Love that you document these. You'll look back and laugh someday!
ReplyDeleteThe licking the water off of the broccoli is my favorite! Kids certainly keep us on our toes!
ReplyDeleteI had a child pee on the floor in the dentist waiting room and left without saying anything. Nate did it once with one of the kids at the garden center. I had a friend whose kid pulled the fire alarm in the library and she ran out. I love these stories!!!
ReplyDeleteWell said, Pam, and the stories cracked me up! The broccoli licking is my favorite, too. :)
