Parenthood

The girls were dressed and ready for bed. We were ready to do our final bedtime routine and Anna asked if she and Payton could play in their room for a few extra minutes. I agreed and went downstairs. After 15 minutes or so, I went upstairs, opened their door, and saw this ....

Yes, they had pulled every item of clothing out of their dresser. On any other particular night, I might have dealt with this situation, maybe even chuckled a little bit, moved on, and been A-ok. But this was different night. I had a long day, hubby wasn't home, and I wanted an easy bedtime story, kiss, prayer, off to bed, and then alone time. This was not in my evening plans! Meanwhile, the girls were running around and unaware that I was disappointed. I walked downstairs, grabbed my camera, took these photos, and then made the girls hand me the clothes while I folded and put them away (all the while biting my tongue and praying for patience). We had a talk about having fun, making wise choices, and loving Mommy. Just when I thought that Anna understood what I was telling her, she said, "You know, God told me to do it." Ouch. I listened to her explanation, corrected her explanantion, prayed, and off to bed they went. It's in the mundane things of life, isn't it? ... where we desire to teach our children and then we take a step back and realize that God is also teaching us.
p.s.- laundry folding 101 begins tomorrow!

  2. Your girls are so lucky to have a patient and loving mom. I hope I am that way when Kate starts causing trouble.

  3. What was her explanation after she said God told her to?

    You're a much better woman than I.

  4. If only I had been loving and patient. My heart was frustrated and impatient. Her explanation was incoherent and included, "have fun."

  5. I guess we all have to have a first time for stuff like this! Then we teach them that it is the last time... so glad you had the camera. You responded great.

  6. Oh dear. I can laugh now.....but I remember those days. Usually it was Aaron and Shelly getting into the fun and games. Shelly's comment was "The lady made me do it." Have no idea who that lady was, but she sure encouraged Shelly to do some crazy things. Shelly commented later on in life that her mental picture of the Lady was some kind of gypsy creature. Nice, huh? Love you, Pam, and am praying for you and your sweet baby girls.

  7. Too funny....we have all had those moments. I wish I had taken pictures of the many times my kids have done these sorts of things....enjoy it while you can, I suppose! I can tell you that Jessica is 15 and her room looks like that quite often - maybe I should post a picture for you! :-)
