Dear Sleeping Beauty,
Despite the fact that our little Anna has only seen your movie one time (it was a wee bit freaky), she really thinks you're a great princess. We haven't encourged her pursuit of all things princess and pink, but, alas, her interest lies with you and your cronies. To be honest, I think a lot of your toys are cute, fun, and harmless. Your boss, Disney, is apparently very smart. Surprisingly, this interest has become a great opportunity for Biblical instruction as we have had many recent conversations about "idols" in her heart and how she sometimes loves you and your minature figurine more than anything else. We know this because she is willing to do or say almost anything to get it. Anyway, I had a short conversation with her yesterday and I'm blaming you for it's outcome since your film is the only one she's seen with such a creature! See below.

Anna: Mommy, I want to be the princess. You can be the queen and Daddy can be the king.
Me: OK, but what about Payton? She should be a princess too, right?
Anna: No, she's the dragon.
Anna: No, she's the dragon.
Poor thing! She doesn't look anything like a dragon! Here she is trying on Anna's clothes!
Haha!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that things like the princess thing weren't around when I was a kid. Or, my mom and dad were great at keeping me from the obsessiveness of it. I'll pray for you guys--and continue to give the girls non-princessy gifts. :)
I have never heard of the Princess phenomenon being referred to as idolatry – that is scary!! Have you ever heard of “Gigi, God’s Little Princess.” You should get them interested in that – precious.
