Let's be honest. For those of you who really know me, you know that in the past I've had an aversion to the commercialized world we live in, especially as it pertains to my children. I fought it. I really did ... but for what reason? I guess, at times, I thought I was protecting by kids, but, in part, I also let my personal tastes dictate their likes/dislikes : ) That's not always wrong, but I am so THANKFUL that I've gained some understanding and insight and have become more laid back about certain things ... because ...
I had such a wonderful time with the girls (and my parents) at Disney on Ice this past weekend! I knew that Anna and Payton would love the advertised show b/c it was "Princess Classsics." Just when I started to look into buying tickets, my parents called and asked if they could take us. Perfect. The girls were so excited with anticipation. Grandpa bought the $10 popcorn and the girls were ready. Their eyes were glued to the rink the entire time, and Payton made it through the whole two hours (on my lap, of course). At one time I looked at their smiling faces and I thought to myself, "This is so sweet, remember this moment!"
Well, I'm going to have to remember the moment in my mind b/c I really didn't get any photos. I decided to leave my camera behind so that I wouldn't be distracted with taking pictures. I took a photo of the girls in front of the van before we left the parking garage. It will have to do : )
oh pam! i am SO with you on the "avoiding all things that become idols to your kids b/c of hyped commercials" thing. i can't say i'm quite anti-disney princesses, though it'll take me a while to get psyched about them as my baby girl grows and discovers them. :) i'm so happy you had a good time and that you made wonderful memories though!
ReplyDeleteWay to break the chains Pam!!! Someday your girls will grow up to be homecoming queens... :)
ReplyDeleteHow adorable!!! I completely understand what you mean!!
ReplyDeleteThat picture is so sweet! So glad that you were able to enjoy it with them and share that experience.
ReplyDeleteHow precious! I will keep your thoughts in mind as Lauren enters the phase. She's just starting to talk about princesses. I find myself avoiding any and all food/toy/tv things that are disney/commercialized or headed in that direction:-). I keep asking myself why...I'll keep sorting through it, but it was fun to see what a special memory you guys made and it was "commercial-ed" :-) love you. Geneva
ReplyDeletelove your parents...homecoming queens, hilarious.
