I'm a fan of vacations. Non-stop memories. I'll take it.
We decided to try a new place this year and went to Traverse City, Michigan which is located on Traverse Bay, Lake Michigan. Northern Michigan is BEAUTIFUL. With the national forests and great lakes, it's a nice place to be especially if you enjoy the outdoors. It's also a great alternative to a Carolina or Florida vacation if you a want a beach trip but a shorter drive and cooler temps - mid 80's during the day and in the low 70's at night and morning. Perfectly my style.
After arriving on Sunday evening, we had a busy first day on Monday. We drove down Old Mission Peninsula. It's covered in cherry farms and vineyards - beautiful. At the tip of the peninsula is an old small lighthouse. We got out and spent a good bit of time wading in the rocky shore and touring the grounds and house. It was simple and fun. On our way back to town we stopped at one of the vineyards for a quick wine tasting, which is a popular tourist activity. I know that may sound fancy and cool, but really John and I know very little about wine - we just wanted to check it out and experience the countryside. Hey, they even let the girls taste sparkling grape juice : ) In the late afternoon we went on a sailboat ride - a first time for all of us! It wasn't exactly what we expected since the boat was pretty crowded, but we enjoyed being on the water.
More to come!
I am going to file this thought away for next year. What a great compromise to the traditional beach trip. It looks like you guys had a blast.
